Towards the end of last year, children from local primary schools were taught some top nosh skills by Michelin-starred local chef, Martin Wishart, at the opening of Dr. Bell’s Cookery School at Stanwell Primary. Martin spent several hours helping resident staff to show children the skills of scone making, mackerel paté, and other luxury items. The aim of the [...]
Leith Festival
Due to a reduction in sponsorship, the future of the Leith Festival is in doubt. A plea has gone out to the public, particularly the people of Leith, to help save this great institution. The present 10-day community arts festival event has been going now for about a decade, but the Leith Gala has a history of over 100 years, and is a focal point for [...]
Restoring Leith
Shop owners and residents in Leith are being urged to take advantage of a £200,000 grant to restore shop fronts and buildings to their former glory. The money has come through the Heritage Lottery Fund with £100,000 set aside for shop fronts and £100,000 for building restoration. It is part of the wider £6m Leith Townscape Heritage Initiative which [...]

Edinburgh architect Malcolm Fraser has been appointed to lead the design team preparing a masterplan for the Fort Site. Malcolm Fraser is one of Edinburgh’s top architects, whose work includes the Storytelling Centre on the Royal Mile. I am sure the project is in really good hands and he’ll come up with [...]

Biomass Update
The Biomass Planning application will not come before the Planning Committee until June 2012. Forth Ports/Arcus are having yet more consultation following the SNH submission. With their new plans for the Docks appear to involve the manufacture of renewables and the sale of Ocean Terminal, it is not clear where a Biomass Plant will fit into new agenda. As I [...]
