Building The New Edinburgh Sculpture Workshop

Great progress has been made at Hawthornvale over the last six months.

The development has been jointly funded by The Scottish Arts Council, National Lottery Awards, The City of Edinburgh Council and many Trusts and Foundations, and has been designed by local award-winning architects Sutherland Hussey,
who are based in Leith.

Work started on the first phase, the new Sculpture Centre, in April and is hoped to be finished in April 2012. The second phase of Creative Laboratories was made possible when the project won the backing of an anonymous donor.

When I visited the site, I was greatly impressed by the progress made and the future plans. Of particular interest to the community is that there is public access from the cycle path, and a café that is open to the public.

I am sure this will be a boon to Newhaven, with a truly world class facility on our doorstep, attracting sculptors and visitors from across the world.
